A lot of people think of bad things then they hear the word, "hacking," but hacking your life can actually be a good thing.

Talking Points:

  • Our lives are full of “established systems.” People are creatures of habit! We tend to do the same things regularly because they’re familiar…even if they’re not the best way of accomplishing tasks and reaching goals.
  • There are a few steps to “hack the systems” in your life to achieve better productivity by saving time and working more efficiently.
  • Go about your work as normal and take a few minutes at the end of the day to take stock. How much time did you spend doing one task over another? At what time of the day were you most inefficient, and how can you make that time of day more productive?
  • We waste time on tasks by doing them inefficiently and we waste money on products and services that, with a little ingenuity and elbow grease, we could make or accomplish ourselves.
Discussion:
  1. Initial reactions to this topic? What jumped out at you?
  2. Share some of your own “established systems.” How do you get up in the morning, check your email, schedule appointments, etc.? Are these systems efficient or are they not? Explain.
  3. “The way we do things generally sucks.” Do you agree? Explain.
  4. Have you ever used a “life hack” that has helped you be more efficient in time, money, or both? Explain.
  5. Identify one or two inefficiencies in your typical week. Why do you think these are hangups for you?
  6. What are some habits you wish you could break in your life? Are there any hacks that could help?
  7. Is there a step you need to take based on today’s topic?
