If you’ve watched the news, been on social media, or talked with anyone who is politically-aware, you have probably heard all about the healthcare debate.

Key Points:

  • When Barack Obama was in office, one of his biggest legislative moves was The Affordable Care Act (ACA), often called “Obamacare.”  The ACA allowed the government to give more help to people when it came to health insurance.
  • Now that Donald Trump is the U.S. President and we have a Republican house and senate, there is a big push for change in healthcare. Trump would like to do away with the ACA and institute a new plan for nationwide healthcare.
  • People are worried about the fact that if Trump repeals and replaces the ACA, premiums will go up. This takes away a lot of the affordability of healthcare. People are concerned that they won’t be able to pay for proper care due to the higher premiums.
  • Politicians seem to be getting caught up in just pushing their own interests. They seem to be forgetting about the very people who elected them. Politicians should be striving to make life better for citizens, not just themselves.
