Porn addiction isn’t just an adult issue anymore. With the internet easily accessible on phones, kids are being exposed at younger and younger ages.

Key Points:

  • Take your child for a long car drive so you don’t have to make eye contact while you have what can be an awkward conversation.
  • Be honest with your child. Let them know you’ve been alerted to their use of pornography.
  • Be compassionate in words and tone. Don’t shame or guilt.
  • Talk about the trap of pornography addiction, and how it objectifies people and ruins relationships.
  • Offer to hold your child accountable by adding filters to their devices.
  • End the discussion and then offer to go get ice cream.

  3. Did you like the idea of going for a drive to have this type of discussion? Why or why not?
  4. Pornography objectifies women and men and is unrealistic in its depiction of relationships. What are some non-pornographic sources where your child may be getting these same kinds of damaging messages?  What do you to model appropriate relationships?
